Are you a researcher or lecturer and do you want to reach a wide target audience of researchers, lecturers, students, professionals, policy makers, journalists, etc. with your publications? Share your publications with the world and make use of the new University Library service for open access publishing: ‘You Share, We Take Care’.

The library helps you to share your publications and make them accessible to everyone in the VU Research Portal six months after initial publication. By participating in this project, you can make your publications accessible without having to do the work yourself!

In almost all cases, lecturers and researchers from VU University can share their Open Access publications in the VU Research Portal. The university library can support you and help you to legally share publications and make them accessible to everyone. With your permission, we will automatically place all your scientific publications in the publisher version (Version of Record) in the VU Research Portal six months after the first publication date.

You share, we take care
Dutch copyright law (Taverne Amendment) permits authors to share publications produced at a Dutch university within a reasonable period of time, irrespective of any embargo that a publisher has set. Hundreds of researchers in the Netherlands have already made their publications available in this way.
The University Library only needs your permission to legally make your publications open access. Once you have granted permission, the library will automatically deposit the publisher’s version of your academic publications in the VU Research Portal. You share, we take care!

Who can participate?
If you have an employment contract with VU Amsterdam, you can make use of our Library service. These are the conditions needed for a publication to be included in the service:

  • You are corresponding author or co-author of the publication.
  • The publication is a short scientific work. This includes articles, conference proceedings and book chapters in edited volumes.
  • The publication was published after 1 January 2018.

Where do I sign up?
Employees of VU Amsterdam can give the library permission using an online form [CLICK HERE]. You will receive a PDF copy of your permission. You can at all times exclude publications from permission if you wish.
