Prof. Yuanlin Guo

I am Yuanlin GUO, a Professor from Tianjin University, China. My major is philosophy. I will be a visiting scholar in VU University Amsterdam from September, 2019 to September, 2020. During the limited period, I will research Habermas’ epistemology and social epistemology, which could be divided into these topics: the relation between theory and practice; the criterion of truth; how a political power constructs and interprets practice.  I will be participating as a research fellow in the research group Philosophy of Science and Technology, under the supervision of Professor Hans Radder.


I was a visiting scholar in Lawrence University(USA) from July,  2012 to July, 2013. I received a doctoral degree of philosophy from Chinese Academy of Social Science in 2003, a master’s degree of philosophy from Tsinghua University in 1997, and a bachelor’s degree of science from Beijing Normal University in 1992.


I have published about 40 articles(Chinese and English) and a monograph Theory of Knowledge of Sciences of Complexity. With some help from others, I have translated Chronology of Science (Helicon Publishing Ltd 2002), Tyranny of Science (by Paul Feyerabend), Science Teaching (by Michael Matthews),Three Dialogues on Knowledge (by Paul Feyerabend), etc from English into Chinese.
